I really love golf and I would like to get a career in the golf field, so I was wondering what colleges offer. I live in Illinois if that makes any difference.|||Hello, Olivia. I'm in the exact same boat. (and from Wisconsin, by the way). There are many regularly-offered courses at almost all schools that are going to benefit you for the industry. For example, a club pro is in charge of virtually everything in the day-to-day operations of the course. In which case, a business degree is absolutely a must. My buddy is a pro at a private club up here and handles everything from lessons to the accounting side.
In my particular case, I figured the best way into the industry is to go to a straight golf school. You do some general education courses, but other than that, you only focus on classes related to the game and the industry. There are some schools with 5-year golf programs, but again, most of the classes you could get anywhere else. Not to mention, these are usually big-time colleges (Okalahomo, Florida, etc) in which case you'd need to be there on golf scholarship to fully benefit. Then again, you may be very intelligent, have the money, and be able to enroll at these schools and go about it that way.
The brand new college of golf I'm looking at is a 16-month, year-round program. And you get a 2-year golf science degree in that time. Not to mention, the industry is more about who you know, compared to what you know. For me, being 25 already, it's just the fastest way to get away from all this cold and into the industry. Of course, it helps I'm a very good golfer and have A LOT of knowledge about almost every aspect of the game. :)
If you want, you can get a hold of me (not sure how on here) and we can talk more.|||Golfing.
